Several sources are reporting that Minneapolis attorney David Lillehaug will be announced as the next Supreme Court Justice at a press conference this afternoon.
Lillehaug will replace Justice Paul Anderson who is retiring in May.
Lillehaug is a partner at Fredrikson & Byron in Minneapolis and has been very active in DFL politics. He served as U.S. Attorney for the state of Minnesota and worked as legal counsel in Gov. Mark Dayton’s 2010 recount battle with Republican Tom Emmer. He served in a similar role during for Sen. Al Franken in 2008 in his recount fight with Republican Norm Coleman.
Lillehaug has run for both Minnesota attorney general and the U.S. Senate as a Democrat.
Minnesota Court of Appeals Judges Edward Cleary and Natalie Hudson were the other two finalists.
