UN welcomes mechanism for individuals to report human rights abuses
[JURIST] The UN on Wednesday welcomed [UN News Centre report] the activation of a mechanism to simplify the means to report human rights abuses to the international community. The instrument, called the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights [text, PDF], was developed in 2008 by the international body to provide a voice [UN News Centre backgrounder] to victims of rights abuses but had no effect until the Protocol was adopted by 10 participating nation-states....
