Cathryn Middlebrook was chosen the new head of the appellate division of the state Public Defender’s Office this afternoon by unanimous vote of the board. She has served as the interim chief since David Merchant announced he was stepping down.
The other finalists were Paul Maravigli from the Hennepin County Public Defender’s Office and Amie Penny Sayler, an attorney at Briggs and Morgan.
